Sample Templates of Aviation-Related Legal Documents

PPS participants will occasionally contact the Legal Services Plan asking if we have sample templates of aviation-related legal documents that they can forward to their attorneys as a starting point for drafting a custom agreement. The answer is…

The answer is “yes.” We currently have two available for download. One is a sample aircraft purchase/sales agreement and the other is a sample aircraft ride liability release waiver. They can be found by going to the Sample Legal Documents page on our PPS website.

While the above sample templates are provided by the Legal Services Plan, our panel attorneys may have sample documents of their own. Wisconsin-based AOPA panel attorney Dale Egan wrote a lighthearted article back in March 2019 called, Legal Documents Don’t Have to Be Painful: Simplifying Aviation-Related Agreements. In his article, Egan strongly advocates for a more modern form of legal documents and provides samples of the same templates listed above in his “plain language” style that you can download directly from his article.

Remember, sample legal documents are provided as a general guide for you and your attorney to use in preparing a custom document that meets your exact needs. Copying a sample form and filling in the blanks can create serious legal problems, so it’s important to work with an attorney who understands the law and your needs. Our staff is ready to provide you with the names of local panel attorneys who can help.

In the near future, we plan to add sample templates of a Dry Lease and an Operating Agreement to the Sample Legal Documents webpage. I’ll let you know when they’re available.
