Be Prepared Ramp Checks and What to Do

It’s easy to become flustered when you’re approached by an Aviation Safety Inspector (ASI) who wants to perform a ramp check of your aircraft. FAA Order 8900.1 can help provide some insight into what questions an ASI might ask and the guidelines he or she will follow when conducting a Part 91 ramp inspection. A routine ramp check might take a turn if you share too much information with the ASI that raises other questions about compliance with the Federal Aviation Regulations. To complicate matters, some pilots don’t realize the information provided to the ASI could be used against them in any future FAA enforcement actions.

We know it can be an intimidating situation, so review this list of dos and don’ts when it comes to ramp checks so you can be confident and prepared if you’re approached by an ASI.
